Conditions of entry

The Bendigo Law Courts are a safe, secure, and open court and tribunal building.

The Court Security Act 1980(Opens in a new tab/window) sets the rules to enter this building. It also outlines the powers of authorised officers including Court Security officers.

Everyone who enters the Bendigo Law Courts building is screened with a scan or frisk search. This includes the items you have, such as bags and coats.

The screening is like airport security where your belongings go through an x-ray machine, and you pass through a metal detector. If you’re unable to walk through the detector due to a disability or you have a medical implant, please tell the Court Security staff and they will help you. Evidence of an implant may be required.

At peak times there may be queues. We recommend that you arrive 30 minutes before your hearing time to pass through security and find where you need to go.

Please do not bring metal objects or dangerous items that will slow the security screening process.

Court Security staff

The Bendigo Law Courts has Court Security staff to keep everyone safe. You can recognise them from their uniform and identity cards.

There is also monitored closed-circuit television (CCTV) in and around the building.

Court Security staff make sure people are safe and follow the rules. They can give directions to maintain safety and security, and they can direct anyone to leave the building. Where necessary, they can use reasonable force. When you are at the Bendigo Law Courts follow instructions from Court Security officers.

If you don’t feel safe while in the building speak with court or tribunal staff, or Court Security staff immediately. If you are concerned about being at the Bendigo Law Courts at the same time as another person please contact your court or tribunal.
